MINI-ONWO SLAVE MARKET, Ohambele Accient Kingdom Ohambele Ancient Kingdom, in Ukwa East Local Government Area Of Abia State, is one of the oldest centres of commerce even in the then eastern region, before the Almagamation of Nigeria in 1914. Mini-Onwo was one of the markets(waterfronts) owned by Doku family(dokugbo family) in ohambele where this slaves were sold & transported to the west indies; Portugal, America etc during the era of slave trade. This mango tree located at mini-onwo in ohambele ancient kingdom is believed to have survived for more than 500 years. History depicts that, the famous king Jaja of Opobo(at about the age of 14) was also sold at mini-onwo water front, Jaja and other slaves were tied to this mango for negotiations before being sold and exported as slaves. Finally, the first church in the whole old eastern region "St. Pauls Anglican Church Ohambele(founded 1865) also started at this same mini-onwo water front. Um...
